Mom sent Cole to his room to get dressed this morning.  No one put any clothes out for him.   For almost 5 years other people have been putting out clothes for him.  Today there were no clothes laying out on the floor.  This is what he put on.

When is the last time you saw someone in a sweater vest..... with nothing under it.......  Mom laughed. Cole just gave her this look.  Turned around and went to his room to get dressed again.

This is what he has on now:
Better than a vest but not as funny.
Except for his hair.

New babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday I was trying to sleep in.  I was having a nice dream then cheep cheep cheep I thought it was birds in the house then I was like "We don't have birds."  Then  cheep cheep cheep, birds?  Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep!!!  I opened my eyes and saw my mom with...a box an cheeping box with holes in it.  Then it hits me.  My baby chickens are here.  It took half the morning to get them situated.  We had tho build a new area for the meat chickens to stay then me and Andie had to carry them there.  The area is a fenced in bed in the garden.  Then we cleaned out the cage and dog kennel.  Well the heat lamp was broken so we used a 75 watt bulb.  Never use a 75 watt bulb.  I went out there this morning an one of the Silver Laced Wyandottes was dead.  The total number of chickens we got in the mail was 16.  6 Silver Laced Wyandottes. 5 Buff Orpingtons and 5 Black Jersy Giants.  We only ordered15 chickens.  They sent us an extra incase one died.  We got a new heat lamp bulb.  No one else has died.  Here are pictures of the new baby chickens.
This is a random jumble of them.

This is a Jersy Black Giant.

She is a Buff Orpington.
Hey!
I could start a baseball tornament!

And this is a mouthfull,
a Silver Laced Wyandotte.
I think all the baby chickens are adorable.
Do you?

Chicken slaughter 3

We killed my meat chickens.  And this time I watched.  I even helped.  My job was to go get the chicken that my dad was going to kill next.  Which was whatever one I brought back from the pen.  One of the chickens, when my dad cut it's head off started bobbing it's neck up and down while my dad was sitting on it to keep it from flapping everywhere.  It started bobbing really fast and sent blood flying in my dad's direction.  Some of the blood got in my dad's face and in his mouth.  It was really funny.  Here are pictures of the chicken slaughter.
I didn't take many pictures.

This is my dad sitting on a chicken.
That is how he holds them so he can cut off their head.

This is a picture I took of my mom and Cole.

I am glad the meat chickens are dead.  They were a pain in the gluteus maximus.

Coyote broblem

We have a coyote problem.  It chases our chickens and it even got 2 of the red pullets.   We are putting an end to it.  We just got the antidote.  A dog.  We got a golden retriever mix.  Or a mut.  We took it to the groomer because it was from the Oldham County Animal Control Department (the pound).  Also, because my dad told my mom to.  When we went to the place where the kept the dogs at the adoption center. There were lots of them.  When somebody walks in there all the dogs freak out.  It goes from silence to bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, yip!  Or in human, "Pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me!"  There were lots of cute dogs.  The lady who was showing us around told us which dogs were good and which were bad.  We ended up getting the golden retriever mix.  We named him Champ.  Before he was named "Champ" he was almost called:  Rockey, Snuggles, Rambo, Buck, Bullet, Lucky, Prince, King, Sport, River and Buster.

We all liked "Champ" best.

Here are some pictures of him.
This is us and Champ on the first day we had him.
We got him Thursday.

This is me and Shelby with Champ.
Sometimes I can't remember his name.
I'll probably remember it better after a week.

The Weekly Squawk

Dear readers,

This is the Weekly Squawk.  It is a weekly update of all the things our chickens are doing.  Plus a story about Scruffy the barn cat and his side kick Goldie the broody hen.

Chicken news.

You all probably know that we have a broody hen.  Goldie.  She is sitting on about 15 assorted eggs.  My dad shot our last 2 roosters about a month ago.  We don't know if the eggs are fertilized since the roosters are all dead.  We are letting her sit on them anyway to see what happens.  On Sunday my mom found blood in one of our eggs and guess what she did with it?  She used it to make pancakes.  Bleeeeeeh.  Then she was making bread later that day.  When she cracked another egg she found a fetus.  You could see the eye and beak. It was literally a ball. Only a ball with a half formed beak and an eye.    My dad brought the eggs in from the coop.  We all said he killed it and he said it was a rooster.  Probably not.

Looks like the eggs are fertilized.  Looks like we will have some baby chicks soon (as long as we can keep Dad away from the coop).

Here is a pictures of the chick blob:

Scruffy the Barn cat.

Hey there I'm Scruffy...Scruffy the Barn cat.  I live in Bedford Kentucky on a  farm with 47 acres and chickens on it.  Early this morning Parker came out to let the chickens out like he always does.  Parker is a boy that lives on my farm.  If I'm at the steps I get first pick at the chicken scraps.  Chicken scraps are deliceous, delucios, delushis how do you spell the darn word?!  Delicious morsels of food from the humans table.  Good stuff.  So I followed him out to the garden like I usually do.  But on the way there something caught my eye.  Something Black With a white spot...could it be the lovely Princess Midnight?  She is so beautiful with her black hair and her delicate little paws?  Rats, it was just a stick.  You know one time I wrote a song about her would you like to hear it?  Okay here it goes.

My heart longs for Midnight

My heart longs for Midnight the Princess of black,
For her I would go sit on a tack.

Alas, there is Honeycomb thank goodness he is fixed,
If not I probably would have been sticked.

I long for the darkness when I can see her,
The princess of black all covered in fur.
I long to see her at day but at night,
I go over to see her till morning's first light.

She loves me I know it, like a dog loves his steak,
Her gaze almost makes, my heart want to break.

If I can not have her I rather would die,
Or have someone feed me a goat poop pie.

I long for the darkness when I can see her,
The princess of black all covered in fur,
I long to see her at day but at night,
I go over to see her till mornings first light.

Not a bad song right?  I thought it was pretty good.  So anyways I was at the coop when Parker let the chickens out of their coop.  When they came out my assistant Goldie the chicken came running and squawking at me it about gave me a heart attack.  "What are you trying to do kill me?" I said to her.  This is what she said, "Help!  Murder!  Terrorists!  Bombs!  Fire!  Help!"  Did I mention a chickens vocabulary?  Well you just heard about half of it.  Well I finally got her to calm down and asked her what the problem was.  She just gave me that dumb bird look and said, "Problem?  No problem here!"  I said, "Then what were you just losing your head about?"  You won't believe what happened next she said, "Nope still got my head right here!"  That's what I get for having a chicken as an assistant.  After the chicken episode I retired to bed for the rest of the day.

Case closed.

Wait, it wasn't a case so I can't say case closed.  Hmmmmmm.  How about good bye?  Yea!  Okay.

Good bye

I hoped you enjoyed The weekly Squawk.  I might start publishing one of these every Monday.
