Chickens

In one of my posts I said we had to get rid of our old chickens and get new ones to train. Well, our new ones are trained...too well. When I say too well let me explain.  The goal is to have chickens that go into the coop in the evening.  If you train them well, they will go in by themselves & you just have to lock the door.  To teach them this we say "here chick, chick, chick" every time we bring them food and throw the food where ever we want them to go.  At night I throw a cup of bird seed or chicken scratch, or stale Kix cereal into the coop as I call "here chick, chick, chick."  They run into the coop after the snack & 22 chickens get locked in for the night.

Here's why my chickens are trained "too well."  Some nights (usually rainy ones) I go out to put them in the coop and they are already in the coop.  As soon as they see me, they come storming out of the coop, when they are supposed to stay in.  Every time they see a human they run to him (her). They will also swarm around you when you have food and if you try to avoid them it`s almost impossible. I say it`s like trying to avoid your feet. They are also cute.  Some of the chickens have grown.  So that is what our new chickens are like.  We have a chicken who we think is the leader, her name is Pigeon.  My mom says we should have called her Turkey...I think she is right.

I think you should get chickens too (if you don`t already have some).
Here are pictures of chickens taken from my bedroom window since it is raining.
